The role:

We are in search of a Corporate Paralegal to join our team in Vancouver. We are looking for someone who can make a significant impact on this growing team. Our ideal candidate is someone who is resourceful, reliable, and proactive.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the firm’s tax law and business law teams with transactions, including drafting documents relating to incorporations, organizations, amalgamations, amendments, alterations, rollovers, redemptions, dividends, reorganization of share capital, purchases and sales of assets and shares, continuances, dissolutions, revivals, extra-provincial registrations across Canada, licenses, limited partnerships, and business names
  • Prepare annual reports, corresponding resolutions and complete annual filings with BC Corporate Registry, and Corporations Canada
  • Draft and prepare BC registry filings and resolutions to change directors, officers & addresses
  • Conduct due diligence minute book reviews, identify deficiencies, and rectify issues
  • Proofread, edit and format complex Microsoft Word documents, including use of advanced functionality (e.g. Track Changes, Table of Contents, Mail Merge etc.)
  • Prepare internal and external communication and provide general support
  • Use initiative and good judgement to relieve legal professionals of administrative detail including but not limited to accounting matters (trust paperwork), invoicing, and opening and closing of files
  • File management including organizing, scanning, filing, and electronic filing of documentation
  • Maintain up-to-date client accounts by recording billable time and disbursements, issuing accounts and monitoring payment of outstanding accounts
  • Calendar management and meeting organization
  • Additional administrative duties as required

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of working knowledge of ALF; corporate records management system
  • Paralegal certification from a recognized post-secondary institution is preferred
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in a corporate, commercial and Wills and Estates preferred
  • Team player, able to build a positive rapport with other staff and lawyers
  • Excellent attention to detail and reading comprehension
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive, reliable, independent, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet unexpected and sometimes competing deadlines, and exhibit sound judgment
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Preference will be given to those with knowledge of Clio and NetDocs
