The role:
We are a successful, innovative and team-oriented law firm seeking an experienced Tax Partner for our downtown Toronto or Calgary office. This role will lead our Tax team alongside our other Tax Partners. This is a unique opportunity to join a collaborative and entrepreneurial focused firm that prioritizes professional autonomy, technical acumen and the ability to develop lasting relationships with our clients.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Advanced technical tax expertise and strong client relationship management skills.
- Experience in comprehensive tax planning and compliance services for complex ultra high net worth (UHNW) individuals.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining strong long-lasting relationships with UHNW clients, including understanding their needs and providing exceptional high-touch service.
- Vast experience developing and implementing tailored, sophisticated tax strategies to minimize liabilities and optimize financial outcomes.
- Deep knowledge of advanced tax strategies for individuals, trusts, and estates with a focus on wealth preservation and tax minimization.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of tax professionals while fostering a collaborative environment.
- Experience overseeing the preparation and review of complex tax files.
- Experience advising on tax-efficient strategies including (but not limited to): sale of businesses, intergenerational wealth transfers, matrimonial property division, estate and terminal tax matters, inbound and outbound financing, private equity and hedge fund formation, and emigration from Canada.
- Experience supporting clients in launching new ventures and advising on optimal business structures.
- Experience delivering practical, solution-based guidance at the intersection of tax, corporate law, and private capital.
Qualifications / Demonstrated Skills:
- A minimum of 5–8 years of experience in tax planning.
- A Master’s degree in Taxation, the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, or an equivalent credential.
- CPA and/or TEP designation considered an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines, and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
